Laureate na n- óg!

A huge well done to all in 5th class who took part in the big event of the crowning of the new Laureate na nóg, Eoin Colfer. We were invited to the Arts Council Building in Merrion Square last Thursday where we were greeted by fabulous treats (cupcakes and drinks!) and also by the man himself, Eoin Colfer. Eoin sat down with us and told us many stories of his past, which inspired many of his children’s books, such as ‘Artemis Fowl’, ‘Benny and Omar’, ‘The legend of Spud Murphy’ and ‘WARP’ which we’re reading in 5th class at the minute! We were bombarded by the media – newspaper representatives, RTE, and RTE junior reporters! We also got to meet Minister of State, Fergus O’ Dowd. It was a very exciting morning! If you missed our interviews on RTE junior, take a look by following the link – we look and sound ever so well 🙂  http://www.rte.ie/trte/news2day/

5th class badminton!

Thanks so much to Tony, who not only comes in on Tuesdays for Paired Reading, but is also coming in to us for Badminton coaching! He has taught us many a Badminton technique already, after just 2 sessions! We look forward to perfecting our Badminton skills over the next few weeks 🙂

Today was our first day in training for our Bronze Medal in boxing. It was an intense hour of training! Well done to everyone in 5th and 6th class who were absolutely terrific. Katie Taylor watch out!

Junior Achievement Success!

A huge congratulations to 5th class who just completed their Junior Achievement programme! Andy from Citi Bank came into us for 4 weeks where we learned so much about entrepreneurship & everything business related. He was so impressed by the knowledge in 5th class that I thought he was going to hire us all! On Thursday we visited Andy at his place of work in Citi Bank where he presented everyone with a certificate & a goody bag.image

The Future Scientists!

We had lots of fun last week for ‘Science Week’. We worked with marbles and the effect of ‘stored energy’ to move a stationary marble when the first one is moved; We also experimented with milk, in the experiment named ‘Milk + Soap = MAGIC!’ When we added the food colouring and the soap to the milk, we saw the colours chase the fat in the milk and it almost looked like a marble! We also made our own Rockets – so everyone BEWARE!!

Café Rutland!

We were envious of Ms Heverin’s class having a Hot Chocolate Feast so we too celebrated our yard points victory by having of our own hot cuppa choc with marshmallows! Yum! Keep up the good work on yard 3rd & 5th 🙂

Friendship Egg-speriment!

We met poor Eggward last week, who was very sad and lonely. When placed in the water, he sank straight to the bottom 🙁 Luckily, 5th class are ‘egg-stremely’ friendly so we all had a turn to cheer him up by telling him something nice, funny, or just being friendly in general (adding salt each time!). Thankfully, he rose to the top of the water where he now resides 🙂 He is much happier now 🙂CIMG0473
