The North East Inner City (NEIC) – initiatives
In the aftermath of the recent feud, the Taoiseach’s office established a task force to address issues such as education, health and crime in the area and an inter agency structure of subgroups for each was formed. The Dept of Education met with the local principals who emphasised the need for a focus on psychological supports and speech and language supports and the NEIC MDT was born.
In addition, the Department of Children & Youth Affairs came forward with a proposal to bring City Connects to Ireland as a further measure to put supports in place for children. The schools got on board and City Connects was born!
