I Heart Science: Fourth Class & Science Club Dissections

Exploring the sheep heart

Exploring the sheep heart

Well another Valentine’s Day has rolled around so what better time than now to dissect a heart?

Fourth Class have been looking at the human circulatory system and how the heart works! On Valentine’s day we became heart surgeons and explored some sheep hearts! We then teamed up with Science Club for some more investigations!

Science Club

This year we have a Science Club at Rutland!! The club, made up of students from 2nd-4th class meets once a week for an hour of hands-on science activities!

For the first half of  term we are investigating space science!!!

We all adopted a planet, discovered some incredibly interesting facts  and together made a solar system!!!

We also looked at gravity and air resistance with Felix Baumgartner & Brian Cox (on YouTube) . We were inspired to design our very own parachutes!!! Material choice, shape and surface area were important elements of our design process!

We tested our parachutes on the stairs 🙂

We also made rockets to launch ourselves into space, and will post these
