School Information for Parents

Relationships

Parents and teachers are partners in their child’s education. In Rutland N.S. we recognise the value of working together to ensure our children get the most out of their time in our school. We seek to foster positive relationships with parents/guardians by encouraging them to join our Parents’ Association and through the various activities organised by our Home School Community Liaison co-ordinator. We have annual parent teacher meetings and teachers are available to meet parents before or after school. Please make an appointment if you have a concern, so the teacher has time to address it.

An Ethos of Respect

The school Code of Behaviour endeavours to ensure that all children and staff of Rutland N.S. are safe whilst under our care. The Code applies to all children, parents/guardians of children and all staff working in Rutland N.S. By enrolling your child in our school, you have signed up to the school Code of Behaviour.

Rutland N.S. believes all of our children and staff deserve respect. Staff are respectful to parents and parents are asked to be respectful to staff at all times. It is the responsibility of parents to provide positive role models for their children. The Board of Management wishes to remind parents that abusive or aggressive behaviour toward any child or member of staff will not be tolerated, as it contravenes the school Code of Behaviour.

Social Media

Many people nowadays use social media to communicate with one another, which has implications for the school community. School staff are not allowed to post comments about the school or comments or photos about the children on any social media. The Board considers this highly inappropriate behaviour.

Parents/guardians may take photos of their own children at school or school related events such as Sports Day or Holy Communion. The Board asks parents not to post photos of other people’s children on social media, without the consent of their parents. If parents are communicating on social media, the BOM request that they refrain from making complaints or comments about the school or any of its staff as these may be defamatory.
