Cheese Please

3rd Class made their own cheese in school yesterday. We went to the cookery room and made our very own cheese from start to finish. We heated some milk in a big saucepan. When it got to 190 degrees we added some vinegar. Then we left it to rest. When we checked on it – we could see it had all began to separate. It was amazing to see. Then we drained the cheese from the liquid and put some pasta on to cook! We put our cheese on our pasta and had the most delicious meal!

We are thinking of setting up our own cheese company and making millions of euros! Come and see us if you want to order some cheese!!Milk

Spring Windmills!

Nyamka made these fantastic windmills and we tested them out on the school roof garden. We had great fun!

To make the windmill you will need:

  • A square piece of paper
  • A scissors
  • Glue
  • Blue Tac
  • Thumb Tac
  • A Straw

Here are the instructions:

  • First fold the paper to the opposite corner (to make a triangle).
  • Open up the paper again. Then fold the other corners together.
  • Open up the paper once more.
  • Cut along the four  lines from the corners halfway into the centre of the page.
  • Bend (but do not fold flat) every second corner into the centre point and stick it with some glue.
  • Push the thumb tac through the centre point and through a straw at the back (which will be the handle).
  • For safety and to hold everything secure, put some blue tac on the sharp point of the thumb tac at the back.
  • Go outside and see your windmill work! Magic!

World Book Day

World Book Day was last Thursday. Third class went to the library to do paired reading with the Junior Infants.
We picked out books that we thought Junior Infants would like. Some of the books we read were: Pants, Room on the Broom, Cinderella, Henry Hugglemonster, Spot the Duck and One to ten and Back Again. All of them were colourful, with loads of pictures and easy for young children to understand.
We read the books to the Junior Infants, we showed them the pictures and we asked them questions about the books. We asked them to guess what the book was about, we asked them about colours, we asked them did they like the book and what their favourite character was.
It was nice to read to children that are younger than us. It was a good experience. We hope the junior infants enjoyed it as much as we did.CIMG1732

This is what you need to make them:

Sellotape, cardboard, scissors, paint, sandwich bag.

You squeeze some paint into the sandwich bag (not too much) and then seal it. Then cut some cardboard and stick the bag onto it with sellotape.

You can use the paint writer to practice words and sounds and to play lots of different games!

Here is Nyamka using the ones we made 🙂
