The children in the school are studying the theme of the Renaissance for art this month.
We have a lovely interactive display in our hallway thanks to Emma!
Here are some photos of the display…..
The children in Doodle Den are concentrating their literacy learning around the theme of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ this week. Look at the amazing stick puppets we made!! We had to listen to the instructions very carefully and cut along the frame of each puppet with care. We used them to develop our oral language skills around the story! We had great fun!

We are so excited about maths week next week! There are lots of activities planned for each class & we hope some parents will join us for the fun! Here’s a little fun to get everyone in maths fever!! …… Can you estimate how many skittles are in this bottle?!! The only person who knows is Ms Heverin! We’ll be collecting guesses from pupils and teachers next week & everyone will get to hold the jar and have a look! The closest to the answer wins the bottle next Friday & can chew skittles for the weekend! (Don’t tell the dentist!!) best of luck everyone!! (PS: I have wrapped about 20 layers of sellotape around the lid of the bottle in case anyone might get peckish and take one or two!!)

We went to the Rose garden and some people got very romantic there! Ms Heverin found a dress she could wear to a wedding – she looked swit-swoo!
Overall we had a really great day.

A huge well done to all in 5th class who took part in the big event of the crowning of the new Laureate na nóg, Eoin Colfer. We were invited to the Arts Council Building in Merrion Square last Thursday where we were greeted by fabulous treats (cupcakes and drinks!) and also by the man himself, Eoin Colfer. Eoin sat down with us and told us many stories of his past, which inspired many of his children’s books, such as ‘Artemis Fowl’, ‘Benny and Omar’, ‘The legend of Spud Murphy’ and ‘WARP’ which we’re reading in 5th class at the minute! We were bombarded by the media – newspaper representatives, RTE, and RTE junior reporters! We also got to meet Minister of State, Fergus O’ Dowd. It was a very exciting morning! If you missed our interviews on RTE junior, take a look by following the link – we look and sound ever so well 🙂 http://www.rte.ie/trte/news2day/

Our recently reviewed Anti-Bullying Policy is now available under the Anti-Bullying section of our website. Thanks to pupils, parents and staff for their hard work in drafting this policy. Our catchphrase is Bully free – it starts with me!
Well done to all of the children in sixth class who held their Service of Light and Enrolement Ceremony today. Everybody took part in their readings and prayers really well. It was great to have our parents, guardians and sponsors involved as well. Now we really can’t wait for our Confirmation day! Big thanks to Father Tim for all of his help today 🙂
Laureate na nÓg Niamh Sharkey joined with colleagues from Brown Bag Films to celebrate International Children’s Books Day at Rutland Street National School with the launch of Bookbag.
Bookbag is a children’s book gifting initiative, kickstarted by funding from Brown Bag Films and delivered in partnership with Laureate na nÓg and Children’s Books Ireland. Rutland National School is the first school chosen to take part in this scheme; Brownbag and CBI hope to bring books to many more schools in the future.
Under the scheme, every child in the school got a brand new book to take home and keep – a book that is fun, entertaining, high quality and that will encourage reading for the love of it, not just to learn.
Niamh Sharkey believes that reading is a great way to explore new worlds through the imagination and to discover amazing illustrations – no matter how young or old you are.
Thank you so much for our beautiful new books!

Well done to 3rd class who are continuing to borrow from the library each Tuesday morning. We now even have some of the class trained up as library scanners so they take turns doing that job each week. They are experts at this stage!
Well done also to Calvin who has taken a great interest in reading! Every time Ms. Heverin looks over he has his head in a book! Especially the Captain Underpants series of books. Craig brought in a set from home to supplement what we already have in our library collection. They’ll keep us going for a while!

Volunteers from ESB take part in the inaugural ‘ESB Engineering Squad’. The initiative, which is part of Engineers Week 2014, aims to promote engineering as a career choice by showcasing personal experiences of engineering and highlighting the critical role of engineering in society to school children across Ireland. Niall from ESB kindly came in to talk with us as part of engineers week. He shared interesting facts about his job and we were very jealous to hear that he gets to travel a lot with his job- to Africa and the Middle East! It was a very informative talk. Well done to everyone who asked questions and listened so well.
