We went to visit Glenroe farm in Co. Wicklow. We had a brilliant day. When we got back to school we made this video. We hope you like it.
We had a brilliant trip to Glenroe farm . The weather was great . We went on a nature walk and got to see and learn about lots of animals .
Congratulations to the boys and girls in second class who made their Communion on Saturday . The children were fantastic throughout the ceremony . I hope everybody enjoyed their day .
We had a great time copying the work of artist Jackson Pollock this week. We dipped marbles in different coloured paint and rolled them around on trays that had our pages stuck to them. It was so much fun! We look like we are concentrating very hard!!
Hi everyone! We just wanted to let you all know that we haven’t disappeared! We are really busy in 6th Class preparing for our Confirmation which will take place on the 9th of June. We were presented recently with our certificates for completing the NYP/Talbot Centre Drug and Alcohol Awareness programme – check out our photo below…

Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Class had a nice treat on Thursday! Dublin City Council put on a performance for us in the hall! They were very good at acting as the cat and the dog and it was very funny!! We had a great time!
Junior Infants had great fun orienteering as part of the P.E curriculum. We had great fun working in pairs and were excellent at recording all the clues!
Communion Class
Our Junior and Senior Infants had egg hunts where parents helped us to find
our eggs! It was really difficult to find the eggs matching our stickers, but we did great searching and had 5 eggs each to enjoy afterwards!
Our classes had great fun doing Easter art activities. We were thrilled to have loads of parents help us!

Parents and Sponsors – don’t forget!
The Ceremony of Light for the 6th Class students will take place at 1pm tomorrow, Friday the 8th April 2011 in Lourdes Church, Sean McDermott Street. This will be an important commitment ceremony for the children in their preparation for Confirmation.
The children will have confession and renewal of their baptismal promises followed by the lighting of a candle with their chosen sponsor and a signature of commitment to preparation for the Confirmation.
I would appreciate if you the parent/guardian and the chosen sponsor would be present on this day. Looking forward to seeing you all,

Our 5th class also took part in the history trail on Friday, and were superb at it! We joined up with 5th Class ‘Scoil Chaoimhín’ and 1st year class in Larkin Community College. Eddie told us that there is a garden on top of the GPO and this is the only garden on O Connell street! Thanks Eddie for that information – none of the teachers knew this!
Our 6th Class joined up with 6th Class in Central Model School, Marlborough St. yesterday to take part in a history trail based on our book ‘Across the Divide’! We all met in Rutland Hall where we were put in to pairs. We were given the activity booklet and clip boards, and we then took to the streets! It was strange at first meeting and working with new people, but we got used to it and had a great time!
We walked down to O connell street and compared and contrasted the street and different buildings and monuments to as it was in 1913. We saw that the Imperial hotel is now Clerys department store! The Spire is now taking the place of Nelson’s Pillar! O Connell Street used to be called Sackville Street! But the GPO is the exact same! A lot of the class agreed that the older buildings in the city are the nicest!
We then walked up Sackville place, around by Liberty hall – which is completely different now! And ended our trail in Marlborough St School Hall for a drink and snack! We were blessed to have the sun with us, which made our walk even more fun! Here are photos of our super boys and girls being very busy!
We had great fun doing our scratch drawings.
First we coloured really hard on the page with lots of different crayons.
Then we painted over it with black paint (with some washing up liquid mixed in to make the paint stick better to the crayon).
We left it to dry and then we scratched out our colourful designs and pictures using paper clips!
Junior Infants are working really hard at their literacy learning sounds and words. It’s great fun!
Thank you to all the parents who gave up their time and came into their child’s class to help. We all loved having you in our classrooms! Here are a few pictures of parents in our classrooms!

Our Book Fare has been running since last Tuesday, and ends tomorrow, Tuesday 22nd. It has been a great week! Children and parents have had lots of fun looking at our selection of books. Many have bought some lovely new books, and stationery also! Our school will be very busy reading over the next while!
Today was our parents 4th day of cooking with Phyllis. We made scrumptuous Ratatouille and Scones. Here’s the evidence!
5th & 6th class are taking part in ‘One Book One Community’ project along with many other schools in Dublin 1. They are reading ‘Across the Divide’ written by Brian Gallagher. This book is based on the 1913 Lockout, Dublin. It is very interesting to learn about our streets so many years ago. Some streets have changed, but others have stayed the same. We officially launched the book in the Ballybough centre March 3rd. Alice and Cara from 5th class went and met the author! He signed their books! They watched Marlborough Street School act out a scene of Liam and Nora in the book. We have 5 weeks to read this book, and do loads of fun activities. Parents and everyone in the area are invited to read it also 🙂
We had great fun last Tuesday making pancakes! Some teachers were even brave enough to flip theirs!!!
Junior Infants had a great time exploring the construction strand of art. We collected lots of boxes and worked in groups to create fantastic structures! Some of us might be builders when we grow up! Just like Bob the builder!!
Junior Infants have so far collected 213 euro for new books for our library!

Hi all!
Lots to report from sixth class this week so far. This week is a busy week for us bookworms. We are aiming to get all our sponsorship forms back to raise money for our library so we are reading for 30 minutes every day. Here is a photo of us reading…
Later on in the week we are going to Easons to choose our free book for World Book Day which will be difficult because there is a great selection this year!
Tomorrow we will miss the launch of One Book One Community Programme which we are taking part in so we will go to the closing of the project at the end of March instead. The novel we will be studying for this project, Across the Divide, is ready for us in our classroom to begin reading.
We are hoping to do some paired reading with 2nd Class this week too to mark World Book Day.
And finally, another bit of news, we are starting our Drug Awareness Programme on Thursday with The Talbot Centre and N.Y.P. 1. which we actually cannot wait for!

Junior Infants and 3rd class paired up for some reading for book week! The children in Junior Infants were very lucky to have the older boys and girls read beautiful stories to them. 3rd class are great readers!!
The children saw a play in the hall called the “R” factor where they learned about recycling , using less water and keeping our environment tidy .
Our school is working hard to get a green flag . The green flag is awarded to schools who try to take care of their environment . This year we are trying to reduce litter and waste in our school .
Some of the things we are doing include –
1. Using 1 paper towel to dry our hands . 2.Photocopying on both sides of the page .
3.Using a separate bin for food waste .4.Recycling paper by using paper bin.
Parents can check out the noticeboard in the canteen to learn more .
We first met our buddies this week on Monday in our school library. We were a bit shy at first but then we got to know everyone through a game of personal bingo. We split up then and met two people each who will be our buddy for the next few months.
On Thursday the buddy group from Larkin came back to our school. We had our classroom ready for activities with clay. It was super fun and we got to know our buddies a bit better – what was really great was the fact that they could help us with the clay art.
We cant wait for week 3 of the programme when we will get to particapate in an activity that our buddies are planning for us. It will be nice to see some familiar faces when we start in Larkin in September!
We had great fun with the feely bag to guess what things were made from.
We know all about stone, plastic, metal, wood, wool and glass!!
We were practicing ways of travelling across the mat in P.E. We did pencil rolls, jumping and we walked like bears. We had great fun! 🙂
Maths for fun
We have had a really busy week this week in school, we’re ready to relax over the weekend!
We made tiramisu in Italian on Tuesday and tasted it on Thursday. It was delicious, in fact we all want the recipe now to try it at home becasue it was so easy to do!
Wednesday was busy too – our Junior Achievement programme started. It was really interesting to learn all about our skeleton and bones. We participated in some great activities in Larkin on Wednesday afternoon and we are looking forward to trying some different activities next week.
We are loading our profiles on to ThinkQuest this morning to begin our ‘Transition to Secondary School’ project.

Here is a sample of some of the artwork that we completed in our 1st term in school. We painted self portraits which we enjoyed doing. The second set of paintings were completed for arts scholarship purposes. It is Japanese Hiroshige artwork.
Here are some pictures of 6th class learning Italian this week in school with our Italian teacher Ms. O’ Connor. We have learned so much since we began it last year and we are improving every week.

Sixth Class are back at work with a very important term ahead of us. Clay animation, Italian lessons and a Thinkquest Project will all take place between now and Easter. Not to mention our preparation for our Confirmation on June 9th. Keep an eye on our posts for updates on all of these activities!

Ms. O’Herlihy’s and Ms. Heverin’s classes from last year (2nd class and Senior Infants) had a great school trip to the farm!
We learned so much about all of the animals.
It was a very hot day and we had to keep putting on lots of suncream!!
This years first class visited the Museum in June last.
We had such a great day. Thanks to all the parents who helped out and to Emma for organising the trip!

Autumn in the Botanics
Senior Infants have been very busy preparing for their Christmas concert along with Miss Heverin’s Junior infants.
We are looking forward to the parents coming in to see us next Wednesday.
As part of sixth class Christmas activities we began a collection of grocery items from every class in our school. Everyone was extremely generous and we managed to pack nearly 40 bags of food items. The Saint Vincent de Paul were really grateful and we hope to make this an annual activity. Well done everyone!
